After the explosion, everything was hot and like a steaming pot of soup with no pot… the soup was everywhere.
The soup was made out of tiny ingredients… particles like protons and electrons.
This spacestuff was all moving around so fast, darting back & forth and up & down…and any bit of it was too erratic to follow.
But zoom out & stand on the farthest mountain in the universe to take it all in together and it might have looked like a school of fish during a shark feeding frenzy, or maybe the movement of a flock of birds in a murmuration.
Now, create a beat that encapsulates space during these turbulent times. Forget about musical time signatures because time is a very weirdly woven thing made of spacetime fabric and we don’t even have a sun to tell us what a day is.
Use Typedrummer.com and sounds you can make with your Earthling spacesuit. See game details.
IN THIS LESSON
-
Use www.typedrummer.com and type in words to make a drum beat. Use letters and spaces.
Next, recreate the beat with the drum kit that most humans were born with inside their mouth.
Hi-hat cymbal: “tss”
Like Tsetse fly, Tzatziki
Crash/ride cymbal: “shh”, “ding” for the bell part of the ride.
Snare: “k”
Like you’re about to say “cat”, or “cut”, depending on the snare quality you want lol.
4. Bass: “p”
You can really pop out the “p” with no vowel sound afterwards… like “puh” without the “uh”.
5. Toms: “duh” and “guh”
Example: “duh-guh-duh-guh”
6. Cowbell: click your tongue and make the sound that kind of sounds like a mixture of “lah” mixed with “clop”. it’s made with your tongue and teeth, not using vowels. If you were once an Earthling child, you likely used to make this sound.
A simple rock beat may sound like this:
“p-tss-c-tss-p-tss-c-shh, p-tss-c-tss-duh-guh-duh-guh…”
-
For this exercise you can use an awesome free browser-based app called www.typedrummer.com. And also your hands, feet, etc.
-
Eventually narrow it down to 4, 8, or 16 characters if you want 4 beats per measure, as Earthlings are used to, or make it 6, 9, or 12 characters long if you want 3 beats per measure.
It doesn’t really matter… you can do a weird number of beats too. Whatever YOU think sounds cool.
