We started with a big explosion, a bang if you will.

We aren’t yet humans and we don’t yet have a planet and there aren’t even stars in the sky.

This big bang happened so long ago, and we simply cannot understand this type of long because it is longer than anything we have ever sat through in our entire lives.

But the bang was so big it sent out a bunch of primordial waves that still hummm and buzzz through our universe… the cosmic waves are always in the background, and the ones we detect now with our Earthly instruments just had their 13.8 billionth birthday.

Your first lesson is to start us off with an explosion. We need a night light to help guide us through this endless darkness. See Task details.

IN THIS LESSON

    1. Record a sound effect of an explosion. This is a very serious task and will be pivotal in our creation later.

    2. Then draw the primordial gravitational waves using this free tool:

    • scribble.audio

    • Layer a minimum of one each of the different wave shapes… square, “sawtooth”, triangle, sinusoidal… these are all Earth words for different wave shapes that all sound different.

    • Choose different notes for each wave shape… the rule is that the notes must sound good together, in your opinion.

    • Save your wave file as a WAV.

  • No instruments allowed.

  • Bang lids of a pot together, rip paper, scream, step on twigs, pour warm water over ice, etc.

  • Smart phone, tablet, microphone or other device, and app like “Easy Voice Recorder” to record the sound effect.
